Suprise Deaconation
I was ordained a "deacon" today. Technically speaking I think I am a "epsaltos", which is described in the bottom link.
Photos will be edited in when they are posted on the church web site or emailed to me. (This one does give you an idea what Coptic deacons look like).

Congratulations! May God continue to use you well as you serve the body of Christ. Are there "official" duties you will now be responsible for or is this a formal recognition of service you have already been involved in?
Thanks!
Well I've actually already been acting as volunteer janitor for the church for almost a year. So that pretty close to the original deacon from the book of Acts.
But this is my first look at the altar "up close and personal", during a n actual church service. So I'll be learning the hymns, liturgics etc.
Congrats P! Thats awesome! So, you didn't know it was coming?
I was planning for it in the future. There was hints, with some comments my priest. I however didn't think it would happen right away, because I don't have my own robe. I actually used one of my priests toinia's. And that has largely been to some things being tight moneywise.
I was on the verge of buying one a year back, from a coptic web site, actually the one I got linked under "vestments". But they seem to have gone away a few months ago (The link takes you to an error message, or says the site doesn't exist).
So anyway I'll have to talk to my priest, but I think I may possibly be borrowing his for a month or two.
And I'm going to be interviewing for
an extra job tomorrow, since cocoa has slowed down with the arrival of spring etc., so pray for that. I got a big reference, from a friend who is an employee that works for the organization. So it should be a pretty warm interview.
The person by the altar in these photos is bishop Pisenti.
:)
Many Years Pavel! Thast great!
Many blessings. May your voice proclaim the greatness and love of the Lord to all.
Pavel,
In our church we would say either 'sub deacon' for those who work in the altar, or 'reader'.

Many Years! Congrats!
