An interesting interview, and in some parts a reasoned and lucid discussion. In others, as in response to the Christian caller, the logic is mind-boggling. How they have to strain to come up with examples of "Christian violence" to compare to Islamic terrorism- the martyrdom of 6 missionaries painted as some sort of Christian sectarian violence??? The caller should have been more direct and asked plainly how many Christians you see walking into mosques with bombs or knives. Comparing this to the fact that Catholics, Orthodox and Protestants don't intermarry is ridiculous.
Also when the discussion turns to the Jews or the Pope (or both!), you see educated, reasonable people start to tip towards total irrational paranoia. Makes me like the Pope even more. :)
As for the statistics, I imagine they're inflated a bit. They're right about one thing- the imposition of sharia would definitely hinder the number of conversions. These numbers represent what people will do when they have the freedom to choose. Under sharia, the authorities would ban missionary work, execute converts, destroy churches (actively or by attrition- not allowing new churches to be built or old ones to be renovated), and fill schools full of Muslim propaganda, just as they do in Muslim-majority countries.
Yeah I actually loved how they came to terms with the cause of the conversions. Baiscally that their people are dirt poor and the only one to help them are the Christians. And how even they had to admit this is because that wealthy muslims don't help their own people.
Kind of inspires you to want to give more to foreign Christian aid. That is if I had the money to give....
It's interesting overseas missions is having this affect, when in reality we really are supporting them only half heartedly at best.
